The Congress is examining the minister today following new decrees and housing protests, according to Infobae and La Vanguardia.
According to Infobae, MPs from Esquerra Republicana, PNV, Junts and the PP will direct questions and interpellations to the minister, and Esquerra's Housing spokesperson Etna Estrems Fayos has opted for an urgent interpellation on the Government’s policies to guarantee the right to decent housing.
Infobae notes that the case of Maricarmen, who returned to her apartment after an agreement with the landlord, led on Saturday to a large protest that culminated in a housing camp at Puerta del Sol.
According to Infobae, under citizen and left-wing pressure, the Government approved on Tuesday two decrees that extend protection against evictions until 2030, regulate short‑term rentals and rooms, and ban the purchase of housing by 'vulture funds' until 2028.
El Confidencial reports that the Government uses the plenary to seek support for the decrees, but Podemos and PNV avoid revealing the direction of their vote.
El Confidencial reports that the spokesperson of Carles Puigdemont’s party, Miriam Nogueras, appeared before the media at the end of the session and said her group feels "disappointed" and "concerned" after reviewing the content of the first decree.
El Confidencial says that Podemos, Junts and PNV keep the vote direction a mystery, with threatening statements from the purple bloc and criticism from the other two parties; the leader has not disclosed the vote because she believes they must keep analyzing the text, although she wants to play with the Government’s nerves. Likewise, El Confidencial notes that the main issue is that, being published in the BOE, the decree cannot be amended before its validation without withdrawing it.
